A quick guide to online dating, or How to turn online communication into a serious relationship

The attitude to dating through the Network is very ambiguous. Some people think that this is a waste of time, while others celebrate the wedding with the second half, which they found on the Internet. We can only say one thing with confidence: the popularity of dating sites is growing day by day. The explanation for this is simple: this way you can communicate with people from any country, any age and status, which means that you can significantly increase the chance of finding someone with similar interests and tastes.

Does online dating have a chance to grow into a strong relationship?

Surely many people have heard from friends stories about how they found their partners or already spouses through the Internet. Moreover, this did not necessarily happen on special portals for finding a couple — someone “liked” the photo of the person they liked in the social network or started a correspondence in the messenger. The fact remains that people met online.

The Internet is firmly established in our lives: here both work and relax — so why not use it to find a life partner?

The effectiveness of online dating is confirmed by a number of experiments. For example, a study by the British psychologist Geoffrey Gavin. Volunteers who helped the scientist evaluate the effectiveness of online dating were young people aged 19 to 26 who were ready for serious relationships. Their task was to register on a dating site in order to find a partner. At the end of the experiment, 72% of the participants continued to communicate closely in real life, and some of them later even got married.

Statistics show…

… that more than a third of the World Wide Web users have used the services of dating sites at least once. Every day, more than one and a half million people spend 4 hours or more on such portals. At the same time, men and women are registered on the sites approximately equally.

But you should also consider the disadvantages of dating online:

  • the user’s profile doesn’t always match the user’s owner. For example, a 45-year-old thrice-divorced lady can hide behind a photo of a young beauty. Of course, this is quite a harmless flaw, but who wants to waste time and be disappointed when they meet;
  • you can’t do without real communication. Even after a long correspondence, relationships come to naught if you do not meet in real life. However, this disadvantage is very conditional: even the most shy people, as a rule, decide to meet;
  • risk of becoming the target of criminals — not all users are really looking for a partner, some are looking for victims to implement illegal schemes. This is probably the most significant disadvantage of online communication (however, no one is immune from crime in real life). Never transfer money to new Online acquaintances, but before the first date, tell someone close to you where you are going to go and with whom, do not make appointments in deserted places, charge your phone and do not have high hopes for acquaintance in order to avoid disappointment. A certain amount of humor, elementary caution – and everything will work out!
